FC Farsley are delighted to announce the launch of our FC Farsley in the Community CIC.

The new section features a dedicated programme focused on using the club’s platform, resources and spirit to make a meaningful and lasting impact across Farsley and the wider West Leeds area.

It underpins our commitment to working in partnership with our local community.

FC Farsley In the Community sits at the heart of the club’s mission to be a true community asset — not just on matchdays, but all year round. Through a range of inclusive and engaging projects, we aim to create opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to access sport, education, support, and wellbeing activities in a welcoming and safe environment.

A statement from the club board said: “This is an important step in strengthening our connection with the community, extending the reach of FC Farsley beyond the pitch and ensuring we can make a real and lasting difference in the community.”

The aim of FC Farsley in the Community is to use football and related activities as a vehicle for positive change, helping people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to feel part of something bigger.

Its main focus will be:

  • Creating inclusive sports and activity programmes for the community
  • Supporting health, wellbeing and education initiatives
  • Building partnerships with local schools, groups and organisations
  • Offering opportunities for volunteering and skills development.
Steve O’Brien at Throstle Nest.

Steve O’Brien has been appointed Projects Manager at FC Farsley in the Community, leading on the planning, delivery and growth of our community projects.

Steve said: “FC Farsley’s aim is to be a club at the heart of its community.

“It’s all about getting people down to Throstle Nest to use the sports hall, the clubhouse and the facilities we have. It’s also about us getting out into the community and making a positive difference.

“We hope to run classes, groups, work with local schools and youth organisations. I’d like to see the club busy all day every day with people of all ages and backgrounds using our facilities. I’d like to see us become much more family orientated.”

To help kick off FC Farsley in the Community, the sports hall has already hosted the McDonald’s Fun Football programme aimed at deaf children, providing them with a fun, safe, and inclusive environment to enjoy football and physical activity. The project was supported by Paul Young, Head of Deaf Football at FC Farsley.

FC Farsley in the Community has already been active, running the 90 Minutes programme in partnership with Leeds City Council’s Youth Services and West Yorkshire Police. The programme engaged local school children in sports-based activities at the ground.
