Having made a few tactical changes following last weekend’s defeat at Harrogate Town, it was a game with a big focus on the performance as much as the result. Straight from kick off it was clear that the Farsley players were up for the challenge.
The strike partnership of Shirley Murphy and new signing Mystee Kearns were a constant thorn in the side of the Altofts defence with their pressing and speed. It was Kearns who broke the deadlock after 30 minutes with a lovely close-range finish into the bottom corner for her first goal for Farsley, hopefully the first of many!
Altofts though were no pushovers and scored a nice equaliser to ensure the scores were level at half time. Connor Cowan made a few changes at half-time and we saw a few players trying new positions to build on our options for the upcoming league campaign and there was no drop in performance as new signings and academy players stepped up and continued to take the game to Altofts.
Unfortunately though, football is a cruel game at times and so it turned out when a long range effort was too high for Leigh Bamford in the Farsley goal. Leigh could only get her finger tips to it at full stretch and the ball found its way in and ultimately gave Altofts the victory.
Speaking to club media after the game, Connor Cowan was pleased with the performance overall. He said: “Pre-season results don’t really mean much, performance wise it was really positive.
“We did a shift of the shape, new challenges, new job roles and responsibilities, and the girls did it really well so I’m really pleased with the performance.”
