FC Farsley were back on the road tonight with a trip to Harrogate to take on Harrogate Town U23s seeking their first win of the preseason. Izzy Roads’ side travelled with a strong side and good numbers ready to put into practice what they’ve been working on throughout the summer.
Straight from kick off it was clear that The Weavers were focused and ready to put on a performance for the travelling fans with high intensity pressing from the forwards putting plenty of pressure on the Harrogate backline.
15 minutes in the pressure told and it was captain Chloe Rimmer who opened the scoring after some brilliant interplay from the fantastic Shirley Murphy and newcomer Daisy O’Brien on the wing which gave Rimmer the space to strike.
It wasn’t long before the lead had been doubled with Murphy herself bagging a goal and Muqadas Abdul-Ghaffar getting her first Farsley strike shortly afterwards.
Harrogate were short of numbers on the night and soon found themselves down a couple of players in the first half thanks to injury, not that Farsley would take their foot off the pedal in the first half.
A brace from Sophia Lyons and one for O’Brien gave The Weavers a commanding 6-0 half time lead and enabled Izzy Roads to test a few different combinations in the second half, combined with some Farsley players kindly volunteering to play for Harrogate to ensure the full 90 minutes could be played.
Ebony Hartnett struck straight after half time with a venomous effort from distance before the game slowed down as the new combinations and players out of position led to a loss of fluidity.
However the scoring wasn’t finished as Leah Cooper got her first goal of this preseason and Mystee Kearns made it 2 goals in 2 games so far.
Even a late consolation for Harrogate was not enough to dampen the spirits as The Weavers confirmed a statement victory and now look to Sunday where they travel to familiar opposition from last season in Silsden.
