Unfortunately, it was a very fast start from Sheffield Wednesday who took a two goal lead within the first 12 minutes with some clincial finishing on the counter.
Farsley could have potentially have felt hard done by as they had not played too badly despite the scoreline but when the third Sheffield Wednesday goal went in you could have been forgiven for fearing for the worst for Izzy Roads’ side.
However there was to be some positivity in the first half as Daisy O’Brien scored her first competitive goal in senior women’s with a lovely finish that curled away from the goalkeeper and into the far corner with her weaker foot. It was not less than Daisy deserved after some strong performances so far this season.
Sheffield Wednesday restored their advantage however with a goal on the stroke of half time and there were mass changes for FC Farsley with four players being changed during the interval.
These changes and the half time chat seemed to give FC Farsley the impetus to change the game and Mystee Kearns found herself in behind the defence after a lofted Shirley Murphy pass and her first time poked finish rolled into the back of the net.
The second half was very much all Farsley and Imogen Nichols scored our third goal with a thunderous effort from the edge of the box after Sheffield Wednesday’s defence failed to clear a Farsley corner properly.
Shortly after our third goal, a Sheffield Wednesday defender was sent off after receiving two yellow cards for things she had said to the referee, but despite the numerical advantage the equalising goal could not be found (with plenty of help from the woodwork) and the comeback was not to be for FC Farsley.
