Izzy Roads’ side travelled to Sheffield Wednesday in good league form although a few postponements had made it 4 weeks since the last league fixture, but there were a few enforced changes due to injuries, including a late fitness test for Brydie Greenwood, and recent personnel changes such as Emma O’Hanlon retiring from the game.
Still, a strong side was selected and having played each other twice already since September, both sides knew what the other would bring to the occasion.
Unfortunately it was Sheffield Wednesday who struck first after a rapid counter attack was tucked in at the second time of asking.
It didn’t take too long before Wednesday had a second and despite the protests of the Farsley defence there was no sign of any issue from the referee.
2-0 down at half time and a host of changes were made to try and come back into the game, and it started perfectly with Ebony Hartnett scoring her first goal of the season with an absolute thunderbolt of a strike that flew into the top corner from long range.
It was a strike fit for any level of the game and gave a lot of hope to the Farsley bench of a potential comeback. Unfortunately though, Sheffield Wednesday had other ideas and they scored their third goal after another high quality counter attack cut through Farsley’s defence.
Wednesday then wrapped up the game in the 89th minute with their fourth goal and it was a well deserved victory for Wednesday after a dominant defensive display left The Weavers without many clear cut opportunities at goal.
We now pause for the Christmas period before returning to action at Leeds Beckett University as we host our regular rivals from the past few seasons, Ilkley Town, in NERWFL Division One South action.
